The Flower Fields - Carlsbad, CA

In the beginning of May this year I went to the Carlsbad Flower Fields. These fields had a marvelous display of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus flowers that spread over 55 acres of land. They're definitely a sight to see at least once every few years.

When getting to the fields, there is plenty of parking towards the side/back. If you plan on going next year during the blooming season, I'd makes sure you get there early. There'll be more parking available before the plethora of people start raining in towards the afternoon. Also, these fields are not in the middle of nowhere. They are right off the San Diego Freeway, Hwy 5. This can be disappointing to some, but the flowers are beautiful nonetheless.

We entered through the South Entrance (see map below); once inside you'll see the flower fields to the right and on the left will be food vendors, picnic areas, small business booths, a butterfly garden, greenhouses, and more.

While inside I would highly recommend paying the $8 for the Tractor Wagon Ride ($4 for children). This ride will take you all around the field with a few stops in between! One of the first stops was a sunflower field which was beautiful to take pictures in! A tractor will come by every 15 minutes so you are able to get off at the stops, roam around, take photos as you please, and then get on the next tractor that comes along. I'd advise that you sit on the right hand side of the tractor to get the best view and camera footage of the flower fields while you ride along.

When you're finished with the tractor and walking along the flower fields, you can go back down to the walking strip near the entrances. There you'll see The Artist Garden and Bird Aviaries and the Cymbidium Orchid Greenhouse. You'll be able to walk through the Sweet Pea maze that smells delicious, admire the Illusion Garden, and enjoy live music at the main stage.

If you've missed the full blooms during the spring in SoCal, this is one to check out at least once! Plus, if you have the time, there is also a Strawberry farm right next to the Flower Fields where you can go and get a bucket/bowl and fill it up with the strawberries that you pick from the fields!
